Assembly Member backs Living with Diabetes Day

The Welsh Liberal Democrats Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has highlighted an important free support event run by Diabetes UK. The ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ which will take place in Swansea’s Liberty Stadium on 19 June.

This one-day event is designed for people who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in the last few years or those needing the basic information on how to manage the condition.

Commenting Mr. Black said: "I am supporting the ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ in Swansea because I understand that, if managed properly, people with diabetes can go on to live long and healthy lives and these events are an important way of helping people to get their Type 2 diabetes under control.

"Improving people’s understanding of the condition and how to look after themselves will not only help improve their day-to-day health, but will also help them to avoid serious complications in the long-term. Kidney failure, blindness, amputation, stroke and heart disease are all associated with diabetes if it is not managed well, so it is crucial that people know what they can do, and what support they can expect from their healthcare teams, to avoid these and stay healthy."

Experts will give workshops on the practical elements of living with Type 2 diabetes, such as diet, exercise, medication, travel and driving.

People interested in attending the event must register online at www.diabetes.org.uk/lwdd or email lwdd@diabetes.org.uk or call 0345 123 2399
