The Welsh Government will today announce an additional investment of £30 million for 2016/17 to deliver 20,000 affordable new homes. This will bring the total of the Social Housing Grant (SHG) Programme budget to almost £100 million.
This will come with a commitment to deliver homes that meet meet the needs and demands of Wales now and in the future.
The commitment to deliver 20,000 affordable new homes formed part of the Progressive Agreement between Education Secretary Kirsty Williams and the First Minister.
Welsh Lib Dem Housing Spokesperson Cllr Peter Black said;
“We have consistently been the party that has put housing on the political agenda.
“Today’s announcement is welcome news for people across Wales for who prices have simply got too far out of reach.
“In the last election it was the Welsh Liberal Democrats who made building 20,000 affordable new homes a priority. I’m pleased that Kirsty Williams is using her influence in Government to deliver on our priorities.
“The Welsh Liberal Democrats believe that every person should be able to provide a secure environment for their family and 20,000 new homes is exactly the ambition that this Government needs to deliver a fairer society for all.
