Welsh Government Investment programme welcomed but more can be done for local communities

The Welsh Liberal Democrats Finance spokesperson, Peter Black has welcomed the updated infrastructure investment announced by the Finance Minister today but has expressed his disappointment that the Welsh Labour government are failing to give local councils the powers they need to invest in their own communities

Commenting, Mr. Black said: "The UK Coalition government are making the Wales Infrastructure Investment Plan possible, by providing extra borrowing powers in the Wales Bill. but the Welsh Labour government are not using all the tools in the borrowing box. In England councils are able to borrow and invest in much needed regeneration. Welsh councils are not being given the opportunity to do this. It is Welsh communities that will suffer.

"The Welsh Labour government are lacking imagination by not using innovative finance arrangements. Local councils should be allowed to invest innovatively to improve the infrastructure of their areas."
