The Welsh Liberal Democrats Heritage Spokesperson, Peter Black has welcomed the fact that the rumoured cut in funding for Welsh-language television channel S4C has not materialised.
S4C received £6.7m from the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport in 2013, but is now mostly funded from the BBC licence fee. However, there were claims that government cuts to the Department would see an end to that funding.
"The UK government remains committed to S4C as a strong and independent Welsh language TV service," said Mr. Black. "Having put in place a stable funding package for the channel it would not have been right to have then placed it under more funding pressure.
"I am delighted that the UK Government listened to representations from Welsh Liberal Democrats amongst others and have left this funding in place. S4C needs to have stability and certainty and that has been delivered by the UK Government today."
