There are still far too many social homes that are of a poor standard, Peter Black AM has said today.
Despite the Welsh Government’s announcementthat it will make money available for councils and housing associations to improve homes, the amount announced is actually a real-terms cut in the budget.
Peter Black, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Housing Minister said:
“Fifteen years ago the Welsh Labour Government pledged that every single social home would be fit for purpose by 2010 – this is a pledge it has failed to meet.
“This is simply a re-announcement. Whilst the Welsh Government is busy patting itself on the back, this is actually a real terms cut in the money that was already available.
“Because of Labour’s failings on this issue, thousands of tenants in social housing are living in poor standard accommodation. Too many people are being forced to live in damp and cold homes.”
