Peter Black AM responds to £70m increase in NHS

Commenting on the announcement that the ‘consequential’ money from the UK Autumn Statement will go towards the Welsh Liberal Democrats’ ‘Integrated Care Fund’ and ‘Primary care developments’, Peter Black Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Finance Minister said:

"The Welsh Liberal Democrats ensured the establishment of the Integrated Care Fund in previous budget negotiations with the Welsh Government. Since the Autumn Statement, we have been consistent in calling for extra resources to put towards this fund. Therefore we welcome today’s announcement.

"Our Integrated Care Fund will invest in services that support older people, particularly the frail elderly, to maintain their independence and remain in their own home while receiving care.

"We all know how our NHS is really struggling at the moment. Overworked staff are under an immense amount of pressure which means that many patients are not getting the treatment they deserve. This fund will help alleviate some of the pressure our health service is under by keeping patients out of our A&E units and will reduce unplanned admissions."
