Caerphilly Council e-cigs ban “completely unjustifiable"

Caerphilly Council's vote to prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes in council-owned buildings and vehicles is "completely unjustifiable", according to a Welsh Lib Dem AM.

Reacting to today's news, Peter Black AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for local government, said:

"Any ban on e-cigs is completely unjustifiable. There is no evidence to date that e-cigs emit anything more harmful than water vapour, and until there is a clear evidence base showing that second-hand vapour does cause harm we should presume in favour of individual liberty.

"If Caerphilly Council really wanted to promote a smoke-free work environment, they would recognise that e-cigs have helped many people to quit smoking altogether and would promote their use as a healthier alternative."
