Broadband go slow threatens future of small businesses in Skewn, Jersey Marine and Birchgrove

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has raised the concerns ofsmall businesses in Skewen, Jersey Marine and Birchgrove about slow broadband speeds with the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport in the Assembly.

Mr. Black told the Minister that he has had representations from small businesses on the Skewen exchange who are suffering due to slow internet speeds in the area. He has contacted BT about this matter but has been told that businesses will have to wait until 2015 before their internet access is operating on more modern speeds.

"Small businesses are facing a hard enough task as it is due to the difficulties with the economy without further obstacles being put in their way," said Mr. Black. "Slow broadband speeds are a major problem for businesses in today's markets. Many cannot afford to wait another 18 months or so to catch up.

"I asked the Minister if she will make representations to BT to do the work earlier and she promised to do what she can to speed up the process. I am grateful for that intervention."
