Assembly Member welcomes plan to increase rail services to Maesteg

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has welcomed Welsh Transport Minister, Edwina Hart’s commitment to developing additional infrastructure so that rail services to Maesteg can be improved.

The commitment came in response to a letter sent by Mr Black seeking answers to how an expansion of the Maesteg services could be achieved.

Mr Black said:

"I am delighted that the Minister, and the Welsh Government, are taking the need to bring about this expansion seriously, and the Minister’s letter says that a detailed option plan is scheduled to be sorted out by the end of 2015/16.

"Local people in the Maesteg area have been contacting me for some time to ask what was being done to improve the rail services. That is why I wrote to the Minister seeking answers.

"I will be keeping a close eye on the plans as they are prepared. I am determined to do whatever I can to make sure that this rail expansion happens. The people of Maesteg deserve it."
