Assembly Member calls on Economy Minister to engage with local partners to fight for jobs at Morganite

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has raised the potential loss of 100 to 120 jobs at Morganite Electrical Carbon Limited with the Economy Minister in the Assembly chamber.

Mr. Black pressed the Minister on what action is being taken by the Welsh Government to try and minimise the loss of jobs at the business and called on her to coordinate her efforts with other bodies in the area including Swansea Council and the City Region Board.

"The potential loss of highly skilled, well-paid jobs at Morganite is a major blow for Swansea," said Mr. Black. "I envisage that the Welsh Government will be doing all it can to mitigate the impact of this decision.

"I am pleased that the Minister confirmed that her officials are working with Morganite to try and understand the issues involved and to minimise job losses. She has also given an undertaking to keep Assembly Members informed about this issue as talks progress."
